The Production Design of Se7en

There are many genres in the entertainment industry, specifically, the film industry. Among these genres, not many people are comfortable with talking about most horror or gore pictures. A movie that is widely talked about is Se7en by David Fincher, that is considered one of the most horrifying and gory films that is also in relation to The Silence of the Lambs. According to the blogger moodscanner, and many other critics, the film is highly commendable for the amount of detail that went into each of the sets of the victims.
Moodscanner goes on to talk about how a lot of the elements were hidden from him the first time he had watched the movie that actually revealed a lot about the storyline. There was one sneak peak to the design of the room of the Sloth that not many knew. The original design of the room did not include the over excessive amount of air fresheners, but taking into account the natural order of things, the Production Designer Arthur Max had determined that the element of the air fresheners added a sense of realism. Having an image like that on the screen can only make the viewer imagine how bad the smell of the room is with the amount of air fresheners used.

The thought process behind having to identify characters and learning how they would live in their own space is very complex. This step in pre-production before shooting actually starts after the casting process has already been done to get the full assessment of the person who is supposed to occupy that dedicated space. The Art of Production Design is an article that talks about the amount of time and dedication it takes to make the viewer believe that these actors actually live in the space created. There is a process one goes through to make a set or even location feel like an actual place that is lived in. Most people don’t think about the little surprises in a set, like how a piece of garbage can change the whole space.
